Costa Rica Classic Plus in November
Costa Rica is a classic destination for British birders in winter, and having just returned from leading our ‘Classic Tour Plus’ holiday, guide Mark Warren sums up the holiday highlights…
“…seeing 385 bird species, plus numerous quality mammals, reptiles, butterflies and an incredible Helicopter Damselfly makes it almost impossible to fit the highlights in one paragraph. Client favourites from this year’s tour included a morning with stunning Resplendent Quetzal, multiple Sloth encounters including one with a baby on a boat trip at Tortuguero to sunrise overlooking Arenal Volcano. There really is so much to see and do, every day had its highlights. For local guide Paco and I, personal highs were finding Sunbittern and Black Hawk-Eagle when least expected – two quality birds! Who couldn’t love all the hummingbirds too, with 32 species making it onto the checklist! A beautiful White Hawk causing driver Rodrigo to wave frantically was another memorable moment, while the laughs and friendships this wonderful country encouraged on our tour was just as special. I’m already looking forward to returning 12 months from now!” Mark Warren
“So that’s the end of our final day on this year's Heatherlea Goa trip, and we have had some cracking birds! We've seen most of the available endemics and lots of other highlights, including a Brown Booby on the coast, which is a Goa mega!! Other highlights included seeing seven species of kingfisher in one day, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Grey-fronted Green Pigeon, Asian White-bellied Sea Eagle, Malabar Trogon and not forgetting a smiling Marsh Mugger Crocodile". Guyana
Heatherlea Guide Holly Page has just returned from a 10-day recce in Guyana. This was a fact-finding trip for an exciting new Heatherlea tour coming soon!
“It was a fantastic trip with hospitable people, good food and enigmatic wildlife. Over the course of the trip I visited several lodges in key wildlife areas and, although not a dedicated birdwatching trip, I saw a respectable 210 bird species and some iconic mammals. Highlights included Guianan Cock-of-the Rock, Yellow Oriole, Limpkin, Buff-necked Ibis, Pompadour Continga, Black-eared Fairy, Red Howler Monkey, Giant Anteater and Giant River Otter to name a few. It's not a place you can forget easily and if you're looking for something a bit different, slightly off the beaten track and away from tourist-heavy areas, then a visit to Guyana is an absolute must”.
